Officials have remained tight lipped about the exact ceremony itself, but have hinted it will be bigger than the opening ceremony. In a tentative program released tonight, the day will begin with the half marathon that will at 6am and end at about half past seven. Residents are advised to come in early. The main closing ceremony is set to wrap up by 10pm. The marathon will begin from the stadium through to the back gate of the PNG Education Institute, then the pineapple building right through to Telikom Rumana building towards the the GPO office. Organizers say the Eastern side of the venue will be closed to spectators by 3pm for barriers to be installed at the base of the boulevard. Shuttles from the Unagi field for spectators who are parking should start arriving by 7pm. Spectator gates will be opened for Hockey, Beach volleyball and netball at 9am. From there they will run past the Constitutional park, to the main Waigani traffic lights after Stop and Shop North Waigani, then turn towards UPNG going through Carl Memorial school and the Ensisi junction then into the UPNG Campus to the Games village. On the marathon’s turnaround they will follow the same route back. By 4pm all netball, beach volleyball and hockey spectators will be vacated in preparation for the gates to be opened at 5pm for the closing ceremony. Athletes should arrive for the ceremony by half past 6.
