Recently, two youngsters, Cliff Paul and David Lee were flown out of Manus to join the team in training for possible inclusion in the team. Both are from Rambutso Island, in the Rapatona LLG where the team got its name.An executive member of the club, Chikui Posman said PKA Rapatona FC wants to provide a direct pathway for local talents in the Rapatona LLG to enter NSL and Port Moresby League where the club is also registered.“It is also part of the club’s social responsibility to develop young people to be better and useful citizens.“We will put them in an environment where they can train and develop themselves in and out of sports,” Posman said.
“That part of it will be taken care of early. Our defense is going to get there.” Every team that has played the Irish (0-5) has gotten to its quarterbacks. Notre Dame’s offensive line has allowed 29 sacks and paved the way for an embarrassing running game of 30.4 yards per game. Both statistics are the worst among 119 schools in Division I. Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis has said Clausen is the probable starting quarterback if he’s healthy. But it might not matter who’s behind center, according to Davis. “Jimmy Clausen is one of the better true freshman quarterbacks I’ve seen the whole time I’ve been here,” Davis said. “Unfortunately, his O-line is just falling apart. They can’t block a soul. “That’s going to hurt your team. That’s going to hurt your offense. That’s going to get you to 0-5.” Markey doubtful UCLA tailback Chris Markey was still wearing a protective boot and didn’t practice. He is looking “less than 50-50” according to Coach Karl Dorrell. The swelling has subsided, but he’s still not able to do anything because of turf toe. He would have to practice today in order to play at the Rose Bowl. Since Markey isn’t likely to play, Christian Ramirez and Chane Moline will share the backup tailback’s load. More battered Bruins Senior fullback Michael Pitre is definitely out for Saturday and maybe much longer. He experienced swelling in his knee after limited action against Oregon State. As for whether the Bruins would shut him down for the remainder of the year, Dorrell said: “I hope not, but I’m not encouraged.” … Receiver Marcus Everett did some work on the side and could play. … Defensive end Nikola Dragovic’s groin injury has puzzled coaches. He was limited in practice Wednesday but Dorrell hoped he would improve with a couple more days of rest. Around the nation Louisville: Running back George Stripling was suspended from Friday night’s game against Utah for violating team rules. Coach Steve Kragthorpe did not elaborate on why Stripling was disciplined. Oregon: Former Banning High standout A.J. Tuitele broke his foot during Oregon’s loss to California last weekend and will likely sit out six to eight weeks. Tuitele, a defensive captain, had surgery to insert a pin into his foot on Tuesday. Florida: Safety Tony Joiner practiced one day after he was charged with felony burglary for allegedly trying to take his girlfriend’s car out of a towing company’s impound lot. Coach Urban Meyer stripped Joiner of his captain’s status. Texas Tech: Linebacker Kellen Tillman was suspended after his arrest for marijuana possession. By Jill Painter STAFF WRITER UCLA defensive end Bruce Davis has never met Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen, but he can’t wait to greet him on Saturday. “He’s a good kid, a good quarterback,” Davis said. “But I haven’t met a freshman that I wasn’t able to get inside their head yet. You should expect the first play of the game, whether it’s run, pass, whatever it is, you’ll see me in his face. I’m just going to give him a friendly hello and let him know that it’s going to be a long day for him.
